On Repeat #45

TESSA
Donald Trump - Mac Miller
Spring has finally and officially arrived here in the Midwest, as marked by the appearance of tornado warnings and watches, and now of course I'm just ready to fast forward to summer. I've been on a throwback of what I listened to last summer, namely Mac and Wiz Khalifa, and throwing in Chance the Rapper and Childish Gambino for good measure. I honestly forgot how much I love Mac Miller and his reentering into my life has been a welcome one. So if you need me, I'll be desperately wishing it was summer so I can drive around with my windows down blaring music.

RACHEL
A Certain Romance - Arctic Monkeys
Is there really anything to not like about this song? Answer: of course not. I haven't listened to this album in a while and I quite enjoyed its return. I've been a little short on the new music front lately so I've been revisiting a few of my older Spotify playlists. Also, can we just talk about the new app redesign? Round of applause. Anywho, this has definitely been the musical highlight of my week. Tracks like She's Thunderstorms and Black Treacle have also snuck in when I want something slightly more laid back.

You Are The Stars- Yellow Ostrich
I know I've talked about them before (relatively recently), but that won't stop me from doing it again. The more I listen to this album, the more I love it. Each song as a completely different feel to it, which is kind of different from their first album. This song is just beyond beautiful and you can tell that Alex's voice has matured a lot since their start. The lyricism is reminiscient of the EP Ghost (which I absolutely loved). Like I've said before, I cannot wait to see what else this band has in store. If only they would have a show in KC or Lawrence so I could see them live.

JENNY
Bad Girls - M.I.A.
I'm not sure why I've never listened to M.I.A. before other than her famous song Paper Planes buttttttt this song is the shit. I've been plowing through homework with midterms coming up and this song makes me feel like such a badass. She has such a different beat and feel that anyone else in the industry and that's what really draws me to her. There's also just such a swag to her music that I allllmost feel like I might have some (we all know I do). But really, go check out some of her other work. You won't regret it.

I Hold On - Dierks Bentley
We all knew the come back of a country choice for On Repeat was coming, and here it is. I've had his new album replaying (along with Cole Swindell's and Jake Owen's) all week long, desperately craving spring/summer weather. The amount of times I've heard this song this week is probably reaching a disgusting amount, but every time it comes on I don't have the will power to skip it, or to not turn it up and sing along. I watched his performance on The Tonight Show of this song and he absolutely killed it, which made me love it, and him, even more. And now I'm going to sound like everyone else this week - go get his album. You won't regret it.

TORI
My Moons- Yellow Ostrich
I know it hasn't been too long since I've talked about a Yellow Ostrich song, but they are bordering on my favorite band right now. I figured I would take a break from all the female vocals and talk about them since their newest album, Cosmos, came out recently. I honestly haven't even listened to the rest of the album because this song has been replayed non-stop. I mean, it's like the fourth song so I've listened to some of it. I have loved this band for about 3 years now since I heard their first album, The Mistress (2010). With changing line-ups, two albums, and an EP out, this band just keeps progressing and I can't wait to see what's next for them. Plus this link is to a live version, so consider yourself lucky.

RACHEL
American GirlTom Petty & The Heartbreakers
Since Tori was a total l0ser and stole my choice for this week (Things Are Fallin' - off the same album) I'll go with something I rediscovered last week. Spotify actually reminded me of it's existence while I was searching for a horrendous (awesome) pop song by Bonnie McKee under the same name. If you haven't heard this song, I'm not quite sure where you've been. Plus, why is Tom Petty's face just naturally sassy? Is it just me?

JENNY
The Beginning... - John Legend
One of my friends at school recommended that I start listening to John Legend after discovering the variety of music I listen to. I have one of his older albums but could never really get into it for whatever reason. However, I gave him a second change and Legend's most recent album is my jaaaam. He reminds me of a more soulful (and less sexual) version of The Weeknd (who we all love here at FBG) and also Frank Ocean. If you have any interest in either of those artists, you need to check his newest album out, Love in the Future. Also, this song has Winter Song by Ingrid Michaelson and Sara Bareilles in the background, which just adds to its perfection.

Hate Me Soon- Yellow Ostrich

With two male vocalists in a row, I think I'm on a roll. I've loved Yellow Ostrich for some time now. That being said, I think I gravitate towards their first and latest EP, Ghost.. I haven't actually fully listened to their second album, Strange Land, which probably makes me a terrible person but whatever. Basically anything that a loop pedal can be used for, I'm in love. Other gems from their latest EP, Ghost, would be "Ghost" and "Chills," actually, just listen to the whole thing. You won't regret it.

JEN
Hands - Alpine
After quickly becoming addicted to HAIM this week courtesy of Rachel and Tessa, I utilized the nifty link on Spotify to see Related Artists. I stumbled upon the glorious Australian band Alpine. They are similar in HAIM in sound but have a faint Tegan and Sara feel as well. This song is their most popular although the entire album is gold. I'm a little bitter that they only have one album out. They're an up and coming band, so keep an eye out! They recently toured with The Naked and Famous. HINT HINT: great study music.

TESSA
That's My Kind Of Night -  Luke Bryan
So that random playlist with 6 songs on it I mentioned last week? Still going strong this week. I'm just in a rut (in more ways than one), so sticking with the same thing is logical. This song is a bit of a curveball on that playlist. And by a bit I actually mean it's a huge curveball. But I just love Luke Bryan and everything about him, and genuinely can never get enough of his music. Not to mention, country always brings me back to summer, which I am desperately wishing will reappear at any moment now. For now, I'll have to settle for freezing temperatures, lots of blankets, and most importantly: lots of beer and country music to make me forget that it is in fact winter.

KAYSON
Bubble Gum Bitch (Xmas Version) - Marina and the Diamonds.
So, I was going to hesitate really hard this entire month NOT to do a Christmas themed song until it got the absolute closes to Christmas BUT I couldn't control myself (and to be fair this is just a xmas version of a song..) I stumbled upon this beauty last night on tumblr and have been listening to it ever since. It's honestly the same kick-ass Marina pop song about her wanting to be your bubblegum bitch with some nice sleigh bells. Enjoy.

RACHEL
Fa La La  (a cappella) - Justin Bieber ft. Boyz II Men
To answer your question, no - this isn't just a platform to continually embarrass myself. But whatever. JB Christmas is my jam as I've mentioned about a million times. Anyhow, I just downloaded the deluxe version of this album (oooooh) and this is a bonus track. I'm not quite sure how you can go wrong when you combine Bieber, Boyz II Men, and Christmas music. Most of all, it's a nice break from the typical songs on holiday stations but you can still be festive. This is how I'm justifying myself. Don't be Scrooge. Goodbye.
