Hate Me Soon- Yellow Ostrich

With two male vocalists in a row, I think I'm on a roll. I've loved Yellow Ostrich for some time now. That being said, I think I gravitate towards their first and latest EP, Ghost.. I haven't actually fully listened to their second album, Strange Land, which probably makes me a terrible person but whatever. Basically anything that a loop pedal can be used for, I'm in love. Other gems from their latest EP, Ghost, would be "Ghost" and "Chills," actually, just listen to the whole thing. You won't regret it.

Hands - Alpine
     After quickly becoming addicted to HAIM this week courtesy of Rachel and Tessa, I utilized the nifty link on Spotify to see Related Artists. I stumbled upon the glorious Australian band Alpine. They are similar in HAIM in sound but have a faint Tegan and Sara feel as well. This song is their most popular although the entire album is gold. I'm a little bitter that they only have one album out. They're an up and coming band, so keep an eye out! They recently toured with The Naked and Famous. HINT HINT: great study music.

That's My Kind Of Night -  Luke Bryan
So that random playlist with 6 songs on it I mentioned last week? Still going strong this week. I'm just in a rut (in more ways than one), so sticking with the same thing is logical. This song is a bit of a curveball on that playlist. And by a bit I actually mean it's a huge curveball. But I just love Luke Bryan and everything about him, and genuinely can never get enough of his music. Not to mention, country always brings me back to summer, which I am desperately wishing will reappear at any moment now. For now, I'll have to settle for freezing temperatures, lots of blankets, and most importantly: lots of beer and country music to make me forget that it is in fact winter.

Bubble Gum Bitch (Xmas Version) - Marina and the Diamonds.
So, I was going to hesitate really hard this entire month NOT to do a Christmas themed song until it got the absolute closes to Christmas BUT I couldn't control myself (and to be fair this is just a xmas version of a song..) I stumbled upon this beauty last night on tumblr and have been listening to it ever since. It's honestly the same kick-ass Marina pop song about her wanting to be your bubblegum bitch with some nice sleigh bells. Enjoy.

Fa La La  (a cappella) - Justin Bieber ft. Boyz II Men
     To answer your question, no - this isn't just a platform to continually embarrass myself. But whatever. JB Christmas is my jam as I've mentioned about a million times. Anyhow, I just downloaded the deluxe version of this album (oooooh) and this is a bonus track. I'm not quite sure how you can go wrong when you combine Bieber, Boyz II Men, and Christmas music. Most of all, it's a nice break from the typical songs on holiday stations but you can still be festive. This is how I'm justifying myself. Don't be Scrooge. Goodbye.

So, it's Monday and you're hearing from me instead of Kayley. You're not going crazy I promise. Tuesdays ARE my post days, but since Kayley has been in a wine coma for approximately 4 days now, we decided to give the girl a little break on having a post due the second she got home from Country Stampede. 

Anyway, on with the post. I had something else typed up last night and decided that was boring and really had no point cause it was me rambling about random shit. But then as I was getting ready for work, I was thinking about what's been on my playlist this month since I've been obsessively listening to Yeezus lately, and decided I would much rather share that with you guys instead! (I currently have 30 minutes and counting to finish getting ready for work... I'll let you know how that goes).

First and foremost: OH MY GOD YEEZUS. As I tweeted earlier, I may or may not need an intervention. This really has been a year of Kanye for me, because I got lost in Cruel Summer for a solid two weeks before I realized that other music actually still existed (whoops). Props to Kanye for creating some kick ass music this year. But here's my favorite tracks from the album (in no order because I'm having serious issues even narrowing it down to this):

Secondly, I finally got around to listening to MS MR and holy mother of God I am in love. How I went so long with having them on the back burner is beyond me but they have definitely been a favorite this month. I've been loving Hurricane, Head Is Not My Home and Salty Sweet, but the rest of Secondhand Rapture definitely deserves a round of applause and I'm SO excited to see this duo in September (Thank you, 96.5).

Marina Diamandis will always hold my heart, so of course this month couldn't go without a mention to her. I really loved her before seeing her in concert in May and ever since then I love her even more (if that's even possible). Obsessions, and last week's On Repeat pick, Mowgli's Road have been my two favs from her this month.

Moving on, Ellie Goulding, who Jen and I will be going to see in August along with Bruno Mars (SO EXCITED GUYS. I really just love music okay?). I got back into listening to some of her older stuff like Your Biggest Mistake, and this Salt Skin remix but also have been loving her collaboration with Calvin Harris.

I'm Not Your Toy - La Roux
     So, for the past 3 years I've been a fan of La Roux. Like most people I heard her song "Bulletproof" on the radio a few years ago. However, when I like an artist's song on the radio I look up there other songs that aren't their big single. I instantly liked "I'm Not Your Toy" - such an upbeat song, with sort of the same female strength message as "Bulletproof". It's about telling someone "Hey dickhead, I'm not a facking toy so stop messing with my head", and who doesn't enjoy a nice song about telling some stupid boy to F off?

Mowgli's Road - Marina and the Diamonds
     Kayley has mentioned how much she loves Marina before so I'll save you the torture of listening to me go on about how big of a girl crush I have on her (I literally couldn't speak when I met her). This is one of her older songs but it's so so so good. Her lyrics are always spot on, like Taylor Swift for girls who aren't always writing songs about their ex-boyfriends, even though a lot of her songs do deal with boys, there are also a lot just about life in general. My favorite line from this song comes from the chorus: "And I don't know, don't know, don't know who I wanna be." Because what twenty-something can't identify with that, unless you really have your shit together? Also her voice is one of my favorites of all time. So if you haven't listened to her already, go now. That's an order.

I Love It (I Don't Care) - Icona Pop
This song is going to be the anthem of my summer, I'm declaring it now. This song has essentially summed up my feelings this week as I took my last finals and prepared to move back home, because really nothing else mattered except for the fact that I was getting ready to be reunited with my other Broke Girls. Anytime this song comes on I can't help but turn it up and sing along (rather badly, I might add). Anyway, great song. A+ Icona Pop.  And after seeing Charli XCX last night, I'm even more obsessed with this song, and her. So much so I downloaded her whole album earlier.

Homewrecker-Marina and the Diamonds
Okay, Okay. So I know I've already done a song by Marina on a post, but, I can't help it. She's a great singer/song writer. I also happened to see her live and meet her last night, so needless to say, I'm in a lovin' Marina kind of mood. Though, I am not or have never been a "homewrecker" this song is extremely catchy and I love the line " and I don't belong, to any one". If you haven't already LISTEN TO MARINA.

Shuffle - Bombay Bicycle Club
     So, I've known about this band for a while now but never really gotten into them. However these four dudes from London have caught my attention this week. I'm not usually one for anything particularly upbeat, but I cannot get this song out of my head this week. I guess I'm just a lil' ecstatic that finals are over, woooo. The rest of their album A Different Kind of Fix is growing on me as well. The beat is almost infectious (totally not a cliche at all), so go feast your ears on this lovely piece of music!

Sabotage - Beastie Boys
     Well I had a different song on here before us five broke girls started watching Star Trek. And then Sabotage started playing... and I immediately wanted to change it. I've been listening to some more throwback music (70s and 90s specifically) and this is one of the greatest. Always. There's not much more to say than if you haven't heard this song, you need to. Right. Now.

Sixpack- Jeff the Brotherhood
      "Sixpack" from their newest album Hypnotic Nights is the first song I listened to after my last final. It was just the song I needed to get my summer started the right way. Jake and Jamin are both super chill guys and their live shows just make me love them more. Their sound is so unique due to Jake's approach on only playing three strings on his guitar. I love this entire album, produced by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys.

Stoked and Broke - Fidlar
     Oh, Fidlar, singing the anthems of the underachiever like Cheap Beer and, this week's song, Stoked and Broke. They had my heart when I saw them live when they toured with another favorite band of mine, Jeff the Brotherhood. The first time I ever heard them was on that tour. I also had the chance to meet them which was amazing, even if it was only for introductions; however, that turns into a longer, more embarrassing story. All that asIiide, this week has definitely been a week where Fidlar, Jeff, and Foals have been on repeat. Check these foxes out, yo!

Waste - Phish
      Unlike my fellow broke girls, my choice this week is a bit of a throwback. Billy Breathes by Phish came out in 1996 (ugh, I was so young!) but I just recently discovered them on 8tracks and have not been able to stop listening to that album. They're a very chill band with obvious influences from the 70s (especially Simon & Garfunkel) and a great background to have when studying. I highly recommend them if you're feeling mellow and enjoy great instrumentals. This song I chose in particular because all I've been wanting to do is stop studying for ONE FREAKING second and just read/watch TV/do whatever the hell I want and hang out with some specially chosen people. But alas, that will not happen for another month, so in the meantime I live through this song. 
     So, if there's one song you should be utterly obsessed with, (or person even) Marina and the Diamonds's I Am Not a Robot has been stuck in my head for the past 7 months... yes, SEVEN months. I constantly find myself wanting to listen to Marina 24/7. Whether you're in a cocky bitch or a self-loathing little girl mood. She's the absolute perfect fit. (No but really I highly recommend I Am Not A Robot, it's amazing.)
