May Playlist

It's been awhile since I've shared with you guys what's been making a rotation when it comes to my music. Obviously you get bits and pieces with On Repeat every week but I decided I'd open up my playlists once again to show you guys what I've been listening to. I know we're still barely into May, but this is a collection of what I've been listening to over the past couple of months, and I have a feeling most of this will still be making the rounds on my summer playlists. Hopefully you'll get introduced to some new music or rediscover some old favs.

Childish Gambino
I mentioned that I got into his newest album, because the internet, sometime last month after putting it off for a while. It's still been making the rounds on my most played and I've also rediscovered a few old favorites from him. His music is one I turn to for commuting and working out. His collaborations are always on point, and I really wish him and Chance the Rapper would just put out an album together already (a la Jay-Z & Kanye) because I'm really convinced they can do no wrong.
Listen to: WORLDSTAR, The Worst Guys, You See Me, Bonfire

Iggy Azalea
My most recent On Repeat pick is of course still being played. I can't get over her style and how awesome this album is. It's a good one to blast with the windows down, and I've been known to rap every single word to Fancy at parties recently. My bad. Not to mention she collaborates with Rita Ora on this album, who was pretty much my queen last summer. If you're in the mood for some serious girl power, turn her on and you won't be disappointed.
Listen to: Fancy, Black Widow, Goddess

Shakira
I've ever ventured much into Shakira's music beyond her hits, but her newest album was listened to on Jen's recommendation and I am in love. Not only is Shakira absolutely adorable on The Voice, and of course we already knew this, but the woman is ridiculously talented. Her new self titled album really shows her range of style and definitely makes me appreciate her as an artist. There's more to her than just a couple hits for sure.
Listen to: Dare (La La La), You Don't Care About Me

Sammy Adams
Okay so I'm definitely giving you a sneak peek of my On Repeat pick, and I'm sorry but I couldn't resist. Did you really think I was never going to mention Boston's Boy on this blog? I didn't think so. Sammy Adams is another long time favorite of mine who I've been recently rediscovering. I really wish he would drop a new album as it's long overdue but I guess I'll settle for Hoodie Allen's new releases in the mean time.
Listen to: Summertime, Blow Up, Jets Over Boston, Comin' Up

Tyga
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Tyga is so underrated. Possibly the most underrated on the music scene. And I really don't care if you disagree with me there. He's done a lot of catchy stuff but he's definitely not a one and done. Plus, I will bet you anything if you drive with the windows down listening to his stuff you will feel 100% bad ass, and he's the perfect artist to turn to when I'm getting ready to go out.
Listen to: Dope, Switch Lanes, Bang Out

Little Mix
If you want some serious Spice Girls like girl power, Little Mix is your answer. I wasn't a big fan at first, but I've been converted with their newest album. Not to say that their debut album wasn't good, I just didn't click with it as well as I have with this one. They've definitely helped me power through some study sessions this semester and I've had moments where I've had to really stop myself from dancing on campus to them because they're just that catchy.
Listen to: Salute, About the Boy, Mr Loverboy, Competition

Honorable Mentions/Randoms
This section is dedicated to those random songs/artists that have caught my attention, but I haven't necessarily been listening to their whole discography as with the one's above. Not a Bad Thing - Justin Timberlake, Loyal - Chris Brown, Trophies - Young Money, Stoner Girl - MOD Sun/Pat Brown, Love Is Overrated - Shwayze. There's a few other's on the playlist as well that I haven't gone over, but these are just the stand outs for me.

What's music have you been loving lately?

xx

IV. Sweatpants - Childish Gambino
Let me start this off by saying that it took everything in me not to post a song from Nashville this week.  I won't say which one in case I save it for a later pick. Continuing on to relevant news: how come no one told me I was sleeping on this album? It's been in my Spotify for months and I never quite got around to it. II. WORLDSTAR really got me started on this album, thanks to none other than our very own Rachel. Thus I finally gave it a proper listen and have pretty much listened to nothing else. Also now properly regretting him when he was in Kansas City. Apparently the music gods hate me.

TORI
If I Could Change Your Mind- Haim
For some reason, I had convinced myself long ago that I severely disliked Haim. Boy was I wrong. I'm not sure I've listened to anything else the past two weeks. Any of the songs are a complete viable option, but "If I Could Change Your Mind," was probably the first Haim song to be belted out in my car. I want this to be in all caps but I'll refrain, but I am so livid that I thought I disliked them and I missed them when they were in Lawrence because I was being fucking dumbbb. That being said, you should still watch the video because it is one of my favorites of all time. Plus their style is amazing. Gahhh.

RACHEL
Teen Lovers - The Virgins
This week is another selection brought to my attention via Spotify (P.S. - Tessa so kindly pointed out that Premium is now 50% off for students). I've actually not listened to much music in the past week, I've been much more into Audible. However, this has been all up in my speakers whilst I've strayed from a book. It's catchy, which is always a plus. And they were signed to Julian Casablancas' record label. Unfortunately (according to Wikipedia) they just split up this past November. Sad. Anyhow, this is definitely my favorite of their namesake album. I'd also recommend you check out Fernando Pando.

TORI
Killer Queen- Queen
I'm not sure what brought this on, but I have been obsessed with this song as of late. It's safe to say that everyone loves Queen, and if you don't, you're wrong. "Killer Queen" is just quirky and upbeat. This song is perfect on the drive to work to start my day. I'm not sure what it is but I've been obsessed with Queen and ZZ Top moreso than usual. That being said, Spotify radio seems to think that the Foo Fighters fit in with those two. If you figure that out, let me know.

TESSA
Crazy Town - Jason Aldean
A combination of my two favorite categories: throwbacks and country. I somehow had completely forgotten about this song until I heard it on satellite radio the other day (which is a fantastic investment btw, I highly recommend it if you can get it) and only then did I realize that it wasn't on my country playlist. 500 songs, and this wasn't here. SMH. Continuing on, this song is just too catchy and plus we all know my desperate need to move to Nashville ASAP, so for now I've settled on listening to this song an obnoxious amount of times.

RACHEL
II. WORLDSTAR - Childish Gambino
It's been awhile since I've posted about rap, so it's beyond time I start again. Somehow I've managed to neglect because the internet in my queue, and ohhh what a mistake that was. I still need to properly (read: obsessively) listen to it but for now I can't stop jamming to this track. Gambino subtly references The Little Mermaid so you know it's a winner. This has made a week of hellish school and work marginally less painful.

Favorite Song - Chance the Rapper ft. Childish Gambino
I have no real explanation for this week's choice except that I like Chance the Rapper and Childish Gambino. And this song obviously. Gambino recently dropped his new album, which I haven't had much of a chance to listen to, but their collaborations are on point (they have one on each of their albums). So this song is A+ 10/10 if you like both of them. Or if you're new to Chance, as long as you like Gambino, you're good.

TORI
Jungle Love- Steve Miller Band
I get the pleasure of listening to the radio at work (yea, pleasure), so I typically choose the classic rock station. This song has been played at least once a day this week so it was bound to be stuck in my head for all eternity. I read the lyrics and I don't even know. I just. I don't get it. So this is a short little bit but I really have nothing to say about this because I'm confused by the lyrics so there's that. For y'all who aren't classic rock fans, you might know one of their more famous songs, "Fly Like An Eagle." If not, turn on a classic rock station.

Mask Your Soul – Blu & Exile
Alright, this is almost cheating. Truthfully I’ve been all about The Growlers (UPDATE: THE ENITRE ALBUM IS BOMB) this week. I’ve alternated between that and Christmas music, so posting either would be a bit of a bore. However, I’ve had this in my queue a while and it’s up next for an extensive listen. From what I’ve heard Give Me My Flowers While I Can Still SmellThem is on point. The backtracks are interesting and lyricism is undoubtedly clever. Would highly recommend.
