Styling Sports Team Apparel

It seems that almost every sport (except my all time fav - football) is in season right now. Of course this makes for a lot of fans sporting their apparel around town and I am no exception. Though I've been born and raised in Kansas City, I'm die hard for Boston. Unless we're talking soccer in which case SPORTING KC ALL THE WAY. Sorry, I just get intense about sports. Anyway, here's some tips and tricks for how I style my sports apparel to elevate them just a little from your basic jeans and t-shirt.

Tuesday Talk | Spring Transition Piece

RACHEL
Denim Vest
Considering Tessa and I frequently end up wearing nearly identical outfits, it should come as no surprise that I've chosen a denim vest. I added this to my wardrobe this past summer and have essentially worn it year-round since. This is fantastic to throw over a zip-up hoodie during the cooler, rainy days of spring. However, it's also helpful to bring along to pop on over a t-shirt if things are a little warmer. I even pair it with summer dresses when I want to keep my look casual. A vest allows me to layer up, without completely masking my outfit underneath. Sorted. (P.S. - see it styled here).

TESSA
Denim/Hoodie Jacket
This jacket has been a well-loved staple in my wardrobe for about a year and spring is no exception to breaking it out. I've found that it's the perfect layering piece for when the weather is starting to warm up but it's not quite time to rock a t-shirt or tank top solo. The mix of fabrics give a laid back vibe to any outfit, and the fact that it's light denim and grey means it goes with pretty much my entire closet. I usually pair it up with leggings and a longer tank top or oversized t-shirt or dark wash jeans and a basic t-shirt with a statement necklace.

TORI
Ankle Boots
I bought these at Forever 21 awhile ago and have been wearing them constantly. They are easily dressed up or worn casually. They are perfect for the spring transition because they can be worn with pants (like shown) or with shorts or a dress. Bonus: they are clicky. Who doesn't enjoy a good shoe that clicks?

Spring Inspiration

It seems that spring is finally upon us here in Kansas. And now I'm going to hope and pray that I didn't just jinx it. I've been in a bit of a rut lately as far as fashion and make up goes lately, so here's some spring time inspiration that will hopefully help you if you're looking for something new, as well as help my out of my routine.

I've already decided my color palette for spring will have actual color. A huge shock to anyone who knows me, try not to fall over. Gray is going to be my main neutral this season, because there's always a shade that goes with everything. Continuing on the theme of my last few videos, purple is of course going to be included. Inspired by an eyeshadow that I lived in for most of last summer, teal will also be joining the party. And last but not least, coral. Three colors is like overload for me, but I don't even care. I may even add in a splash of emerald, considering I've been obsessing over it for the last year and a half. So without further ado, here's some fashion and make up inspiration for you, featuring my spring color palette.

Well that's all from me this week, and I'm sorry for being MIA - between midterms and last minute weekend trips, I didn't know up from down  - but not to worry I'm back. What are you looking for your spring wardrobe?

One Product Four Ways| Black Leggings

For this week's collaboration post, we wanted to give you guys some holiday outfit ideas using one staple piece and showing you how each of us would individually style it. (NOTE: If you guys like this idea please let us know and it might become a regular on the blog. Maybe not styling leggings, but a product we all own, or whatever you guys want to see. Comment, tweet us, whatever your heart desires).

TESSA
I'm all about comfort, so leggings are always my go-to, and an oversized sweater is a perfect match. Though the one I'm showcasing isn't too oversized, it's just enough to be flattering and still not be too tight after I finish demolishing roughly 3 plates of food (and by food I mostly mean stuffing. It's the best). I paired it up with riding boots: 1. because I'm obsessed with these. 2. because they're comfortable and warm. and 3. because they cover where my leggings awkwardly bunch since I'm so short. I kept accessories to a minimum with just a silver arrow necklace. I'm all about minimalism. (Nail polish: Rumble Cosmetics Wabash & Cannonball duo, Foundation: Covergirl Whipped Creme in Ivory, Bronzer: NYC in Sunny, Eyes: MAC Cranberry, Urban Decay Venus & Crave, Rimmel London Nude eye pencil, Lips: EOS Lip Balm in Blueberry-Acai, Brows: Anastasia Brow Duo in Auburn, Mascara: EM Cosmetics by Michelle Phan Clean Volume Mascara in Black. Boots: Sperry Topsider Sable in Grey, Sweater: American Eagle, Leggings: American Eagle, Necklace: American Eagle).

In terms of Thanksgiving, I don’t think there’s a more suitable choice of bottoms than leggings. Anything else would just be too -restrictive, yeah? Thus far the black full-length leggings from Gap Outlet have been my best find. Thick enough to avoid the less than flattering see-thru bum and a nice width on the waistband. Would highly recommend.  Since it’s going to be a wee bit brisk outside I’m also opting for a gigantic turtleneck sweater. I have been all about this cream offering from Gap recently. Just as an extra layer, I popped on a grey t-shirt underneath, this particular one is from H&M. My family gatherings are fairly laid back, so this is an ideal ensemble. Accessories, as always, are kept to a minimum with my silver Casio watch. My brown Chelsea boots from H&M (scooooore) add just a touch of class. However, if you’d like to look slightly more put together a pair of heeled ankle boots would work nicely as well. For me, comfort is the name of the game so I much prefer a flat shoe. Add some grey cozy socks and boom. Thanksgiving outfit (quickly) sorted.

JENNY
Well hello again. I have been running around like a chicken with my head cut off between flying back early, scrambling to get some last-minute assignments completed, and preparing for the feast to end all feats, Thanksgiving. Now tomorrow is a special Thanksgiving because I'll be splitting my time between my family and Boyfriend's... i.e. time for some marathon eating. I started with leggings (to no one's surprise) and topped it off with a beautiful olive sweater from F21. Unfortunately, it's hard to tell how pretty the color is in this picture. I threw on a leather vest for some visual interest as well as my burgundy socks because why not. I'd toss on my black Steve Madden combat boots to complete the outfit. Keeping my makeup simple but festive, I did a basic eye and some pinky-red lipstick to brighten up my face. I hope you guys have a great Thanksgiving!

The Fall Edit | Beauty & Fashion Bits

So the Pumpkin Spice Latte has returned at Starbucks, which if you ask any white girl, is obviously the tell-all sign that fall is here. Well, I don't know about you, but here in Kansas temperatures are still in the 80s and 90s and I'm just dreaming about the day I can finally throw on a sweater and leggings and boots and not be sweating to death. So with that in mind, here's my fall edit on what I'm looking forward to styling and wearing, both make up and fashion-wise.

OOTD | Tori + Rachel

So, this post is a little belated but we thought we'd share a fairly awkwardly posed outfit of the night! Tori and I attended a Jukebox the Ghost concert last Thursday in Lawrence. Thanks to this beautiful "spring" weather, we're still all decked out in tights and boots. Note: I was wearing camouflage to hide from the shitty weather. And as per usual, all black. We both kept it fairly casual, seeing as we were just hanging out in a tiny bar. It always ends up getting packed a little tight, you know, people spill PBR on you. So nothing too fancy. Seeing as I stood on a bar stool for most of the set, I was also pretty damn glad I'd worn flats. Tori, though, probably could have used a few inches (cue riotous laughter). However we did end up freezing our asses off on the way back to the car, so someone should give us a stern talking-to about weather appropriateness. Anyhow, hope you enjoyed my broke friends!

OOTD + What's In My Bag

Hi guys!

I decided to film a video for you and post a quick OOTD as well!

Enjoy!

What's In My Bag (I forgot to say in the video, but ignore the lighting and the mess in the background! It's raining here and my room doesn't get good natural light, bear with me and we will find a good filming set up, I promise!)

Outfit of the Day (OOTD)

Why hellooooo again, ladies! (and gentlemen?) I figured my first real post would be an opportunity to give you a general idea of my style and makeup. So, here goes:

Beauty:

Of course, college doesn't always leave time to do your hair every morning and make sure it looks presentable (I'm looking at you, girls who throw their hair in a baseball cap or in some frightening hot mess on top of your head). I usually take my showers at night but instead I took one this morning. It's pretty humid where I live so leaving it down wet would just turn it into something reminiscent of the 80s or 90s (think Jess from Saved By the Bell, not Madonna). So I tossed it up into a ballet bun, a favorite look of mine recently since I've been so busy.
I always wear a full face of makeup because I have slight acne and some dark spots. I just feel more comfortable when I know it's hidden and will stay that way throughout the day.
I then move to my eyes: first, eyebrows. I use an eyeshadow from a NARS duo to fill in my brows and I LOVE it. When I do winged eyeliner I always use a nude eyeshadow, it's just a rule of mine I guess! However I always love to have some major color on my cheeks and lips which is obvious here.

Here's a list of products I used:
Foundation: Benefit "Hello Flawless" Liquid Foundation in 'Cheers to Me' Champagne
Concealer: Benefit Boi-ing in 01 & 02
Undereye Concealer: Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Treatment in Honey
Powder: Maybelline Dream Matte Powder in Honey
Brow Powder: NARS Duo in Madrague - the darker shadow
Eyeshadow: Revlon Colorstay Smoky Shadow Stick in Torch - the light side
Eyeliner: Stila Liquid Eyeliner in Brown
Mascara: Benefit "They're Real!"
Blush: e.l.f. Studio Blush in Tickled Pink
Lips: Revlon Lipstick in Coralberry

Clothes:

I went outside... correction, swam (SO MUCH HUMIDITY) outside before I got ready this morning. I was so glad I noticed before deciding what to wear because The Weather Channel said it was going to be only 70 or so. But here, you have to add 10 degrees between the walk to class and the humidity! I can't wear skirts or dresses twice a week because of lab so today I took the opportunity while I could. Us college girls always seem to have the vicious circle of wanting to look cute, remain comfortable, and not sweat our frackin tits off walking to class. Why does this always seem so impossible? Because we also don't want to be the girl in class who seems so... "overdone". Most college students are not very concerned on their appearance (which is totally fine, don't get me wrong), but this doesn't always encourage those who like clothes to make an effort for fear of standing out too much. So today I threw on a super comfortable jersey dress on top of a mint bandeau with my new favorite piece, a denim vest. Add some stud earrings and flip flops and I'm set!

What I'm wearing:
Mint bandeau - Aerie
Grey jersey dress - Express
Denim Vest - Forever 21
Flip Flops - American Eagle

Have a great Wednesday fellow broke girls!

x
Jen
