The Most Used Drawer

On a little bit of inspiration from Tori's post last week, I tackled organizing all my make up as well. I wasn't happy with my previous system, and I'm not 100% satisfied with this one, but it's at least better because I'm not constantly digging for products. Enter, the most used drawer. These are my tried, true and in most cases, well-loved products that have made their way into my daily (or almost daily) life. I reach for these products to create just about every make up look. This probably seems like a lot of products to use on the regular, but when have I not been ridiculous? I snagged the divider from Target a while back, I'm sure you can still find it in stores.

I'll save you going through and explaining every product and just name them off for you. Most of these I've ranted constantly about anyway so I'm sure you're sick of hearing about them anyway. I'm starting with the far left compartment and moving clockwise. I've skipped the bottom right compartment as it just houses a headband, cotton pads and a clip.

Compartment 1: Palettes, Eyes, Lips and Randoms
Mac Paint Pot in Painterly, Mac Paint Pot in Constructivist, Maybelline Color Tattoo in Barely Branded, Urban Decay Primer Potion Samples.
Urban Decay Naked 3, Urban Decay Naked Basics, e.l.f. Contouring Blush & Bronzer Kit in St. Lucia, The Color Workshop Blush Palette, Kate Moss for Rimmel in Shade 103, Rimmel Show Off in Luna, bh Cosmetics in Sun (from Galaxy Chic Palette, sample from ipsy).
Samples of L'Occitane Products

Compartment 2: Face Products
NYC Bronzer in Sunny, Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Transparent
Rimmel Match Perfection in 101 Classic Ivory, Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua in BR 12, Covergirl Fresh Effects Under Eye Concealer in Classic Ivory, Physician's Formula Organic Wear Mineral Foundation in Light
Benefit Watt's Up Highlighter, The Balm Instain Blush in Swiss Dot, NYX Vanilla Sky Eyeshadow

Compartment 3: More Face Products
Cargo Blush in Los Cabos, Anastasia Brow Powder Duo in Auburn
Covergirl Clean Whipped Creme Foundation in Shade 305, Pixi Bronzer in Subtly Sunkissed

Compartment 4: Mascara, Brows and Eyeliner
Maybelline Great Lash in Clear, Em Cosmetics Lash Gallery Clean Volume Mascara in Black, Maybelline The Falsies Black Drama in Blackest Black, Maybelline The Falsies Big Eyes in Blackest Black, Benefit's They're Real in Black, Rimmel Scandal Eyes in Nude, Rimmel Scandal Eyes in Black, Essence Brow Designer in Blonde, Rimmel U Get In Line Liquid Liner in Black.

So there it is: my most used products in all their glory. What are your tried and trues that you always reach for? Have any organization tips? Comment below, tweet us, facebook us - whatever your little heart desires.

Hope you enjoyed this little peek into my make up collection.

Talk to y'all soon,

xx

Taming the Makeup Drawer

For some god forsaken reason, I decided it would be a good idea to clean out some of my makeup stash. I really just touched my "most used," drawer. It may have taken me forever, mostly due to me being completely indecisive, but some things did actually get tossed aside. The foundations I tossed out were due solely because of their shade. I'm pretty picky when I buy foundations to color match but I feel like I may have had these a bit too long because they both got quite a bit more dark, the tone was completely off and I ain't about looking like an oompa loompa.

I was actually a bit surprised at how many eyeliners I threw out. One in particular was a brand that I threw out a couple of things. I'm not sure why because I was a bit fond of Hard Candy when I first purchased it. It was pretty cheap and seemed to be an okay quality. When I swatched these products again, especially the liquid eyeliner, it creased so much and it didn't have a staying power that I want with liquid liner. Some of the others I swatched didn't move once on, but the Hard Candy liner smudged right after drying.

In a more positive light, some of these were just samples I used up that I had been clinging onto. For Christmas, Rachel bought me a REN gift set. I recently used up the cleansing balm and the hydro-calm moisturizer in that set. I love the moisturizer but was a bit undecided on the cleansing balm. I'm not much of a oil/balm gal. I hate the feeling of it on my face. The cleanser I use to remove my makeup now is the No7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Balm because it feels more like a moisturizer on my face, it's not a "true" balm so to speak.

Anywayyy, I cleaned up my makeup drawer in an effort to remember things that I once loved since I've put myself on a makeup ban this month. I'm never happy with my organization, so if you guys have any other storage ideas, please comment below and let me know!

Lifestyle | Jewelry Organization

Hey guys! I know I've been a bit MIA lately. I started fostering a lil pup last Tuesday and am in the process of adopting her. Being from a shelter, she had pretty bad kennel cough, so my absence has been due to taking care of a sick puppy.

Anyway, today I thought I would show you how I organize my jewelry. Not exactly the most exciting thing in the world but it's just as important as organizing other things (uhm, how do you say, makeup). While makeup is more organized on the functionality, I have organized my makeup in a way that also works as a decoration for my room.

I got the fixture on my wall as a birthday present and actually really love it. I'm pretty sure my mom just got it off of ebay. It fits well with the "theme" (I guess) of my room. Thinking back on it, I'm actually really shocked that my cats have never played with these hanging necklaces. Moving on, the little dish that I put all of the smaller earrings that I have is actually a serving dish. It came with a set of Japanese serving dishes and I just re-purposed it to its current role.

On that last little picture of the puppy I soon hope to call mine, I'll leave y'all alone.
See you next week!
xx Tori

Lifestyle | How to Slim Down Your Wardrobe

Now, I don't know if I'm freakish and abnormal - but I absolutely loathe throwing out clothing. My closet has zero breathing room because, no! I couldn't possibly fathom throwing out that shirt I bought three years ago that I haven't worn in months. A day may come and that shirt will be exactly what I need to wear. I'd be distraught if I'd weeded it out carelessly. Unfortunately, this is exactly the mental process I follow when trying to clean up my wardrobe. It's horrendous. I'm going to make a vow to myself now to end this wardrobe hoarding. I quite enjoy adding new pieces to my closet, so there should be a give and take. Everyone's heard "buy one thing, throw another out". Though I don't know I have the willpower to be this strict with myself, I have found a few of these tips helpful in slimming down my wardrobe.

BE RUTHLESS
I know it's difficult. If you give yourself enough time, you'll always find a way to justify keeping an item. "It's perfect if I were to...", "I used to love wearing this!" Nope. If it's stuffed at the back of your closet pull a Heidi Klum and say Auf Wiedersehen. You know if you love wearing an item and shouldn't have to spend loads of time convincing yourself. Just know it will make way for something you won't have to debate.

BUDDY SYSTEM
Employ your most honest friend, and have her accompany you on this journey to cut down your threads. I always end up trying on neglected items but can never decide if I like it enough to keep it. Having an outside perspective will help you know if your items are still doing anything for you - or if they should be voted off the island.

AIR YOUR DIRTY LAUNDRY
Try to weed through everything right before you typically do laundry (I'm ridiculous and can last usually 3 weeks...minimum. Whoops.) If you wait until until this point, it will be easier to see what you have been wearing regularly. For the most part, I can guarantee anything that's made it into the laundry is a staple or something worth keeping in my wardrobe.

SPRING (OR AUTUMN/WINTER/SUMMER...) CLEANING
If you're doing a major overhaul attempt to schedule it in between seasonal changes. You'll have a better retrospective view of what you turned to most for the past season, and will have a fresher, pared down selection when it rolls around next year. Plus, you'll be able to ditch anything for the upcoming season that you're no longer into. Trends have a way of fading fast, so get rid of anything that doesn't seem to have stuck (unless of course you love wearing it - trends should by no means dictate your entire wardrobe).

DOLLA DOLLA BILL Y'ALL
Incentivize your clean-up. Look for local resale shops that give you a percentage of the retail value (Plato's Closet is a fairly widespread chain that does just this). Stores like these are a great way to get rid of items you no longer wear. I worked at such a shop for well over a year in high school, and I was constantly selling back my old clothes. Try to restrict your offerings to things about a year and a half old. If it's something fairly classic and in great condition, you can likely get away with selling older items. As a buyer, I quickly caught on to how old things were by style and logo tags, etc. Resale stores do pay attention to these things, so don't expect to go in and pick up some cash for your worn out old t-shirts. Most stores will post extensive information about their buying policy and the brands/time frame they accept, so look to their websites, Facebook pages, or store flyers for this info. I know it seems like a no-brainer, but make sure your clothing is clean when you bring it in. I had people show up with some questionable stains, or things that smelled like they'd been fished out of a dumpster. Not only are you saving an employee from ruffling through your dirty clothes, but you're likely to get a better price for your things if they're presentable. Also, be realistic about your payout. The shop is trying to turn a profit. I agree, sometimes it seems like a straight up rip off. Look into their payout percentage (some shops even give you a higher amount if you opt for store credit instead - woop more clothing), and if their offer is too low for your liking, you can always politely say "nahhhh". Keep in mind that if you are planning on getting rid of them anyway, there's not much use in being too picky about your payout. You're getting cash for shit you were going to throw out anyway. But, to each his own.

LET IT GOOOOOO
Once you've finally de-throned a few items, try to get rid of them as quickly as possible. Either by selling them, donating to a charity shop (Savers is a great option), or giving them away to friends. Removing the clutter quickly will stop you from dwelling on your decision. Out of sight, out of mind. Then you can move on to the new and improved version of your wardrobe.

Alrightay, I hope these lil' tips help you to streamline your wardrobe. Do you guys have any advice on de-cluttering? Comment below, d00dz.

Back to School | Agenda Organization

As you can tell from Jen and Rachel's posts, we're in a bit of a back to school theme this week. Fortunately for me, school doesn't start for another week (whoop whoop one more week of freedom), but I'm already trying to get into a routine and stay organized.

With an internship, a basically full time job (new! yay!), and being a full time student, I've got a lot on my plate this fall which is why it's super important for me to stay on top of my schedule and keep everything as organized as it can be (i.e. organized chaos). One of my biggest tips for keeping my sanity is having everything written down in my agenda. I'm a big fan of Lilly Pulitzer's large size agendas, however this year I decided to go with a C Space medium size. I also quite like Kate Spade and Jonathan Adler, though if you're on a budget Mead makes a nice variety as well. I prefer academic planners since I am still in school and it's easiest for me to plan that way. But office-type agendas work well if you like to plan out your day by the hour.

The first thing I do after I get a new agenda is color code the different categories that things could fall into. For me, it's work, school, blogging, internship, and then other. I like to use BIC colored pens for this, though any colored pens will work obviously. I also recommend white-out, in case your schedule changes, or also keep a pencil to write down events that you're not 100% on.

If your agenda doesn't have monthly tabs (like mine this year), I would advise either using a binder clip so you can flip immediately to the page you need, or using post-it flags at the start of each month so you can flip to whatever month you need instead of spending forever trying to find the right page. It's a time saver and helps you keep things on track so you don't accidentally write something down in the wrong spot. Even if you do, no worries, that's why white-out was invented. Or at least I'm pretty sure.

My last tip for keeping your agenda organized, would be to make a checklist for things you need to do. I like to write any assignments that I get that day down, and then when I get them done I can cross them out. If you don't like how messy that looks (because it will get messy), use a new line for each assignment and then make a box so you can check it off. Another personal favorite of mine is to write down everything that I need to get done in a day on a sticky note and check it off as I go. I usually sit down on Sunday nights and write out the whole week, each day on a different color, and add throughout the week as needed. If there's an ongoing assignment I have, I can write it down on every day so I know that I need to work on it.
