On Repeat #7

TESSA
Where Will We Go - IAMDYNAMITE
So my father thinks he's really cool because he introduced me to this song a few weeks ago and I heard it on the radio the other day on my way home from work and haven't really stopped listening to it since. I linked a lyric video because the actual video is a little weird for my taste, but whatever floats your boat. Anyway, this song is super catchy and one of the first alternative songs to catch and hold my attention in a while. I haven't looked up anything else by them, so I'm not sure if they're a one-hit wonder for me or if they'll become one of my favorites. I guess we'll find out eventually. But in the mean time, listen to this song.
TORI
Merry Happy- Kate Nash
As we all know, boys are stupid. A phrase I've heard many times from my manager at work is, "boys are stupid, throw rocks at them." Kate Nash does a lovely job with this song from 2007 in having a strong, hopeful outlook about crushing on a guy who just couldn't really be bothered to like you back, which is just a bitchtastic situation. With lyrics like, "you make me merry, make me very very happy, but you obviously, you didn't want to stick around," and "I can be alone, yea, I can watch a sunset on my own." And let's be quite honest, this is a much less depressing track in comparison to Nicest Thing. So. Yea.

RACHEL
Time – Pink Floyd
Alright, I think it’s long overdue that I post a Pink Floyd track. My mother has informed me that Floyd was a total stoner band (as if this was difficult to deduce) which all of the W.U.B.Bs in her high school listened to. In case you were wondering, that stands for “We Users Buzz Better” and represents the kids who apparently stood at the top of the bleachers during assemblies yelling “FREEEEBIRD!” So if you don’t trust seventies stoners to guide your music taste, who can you trust? Anyhow, I chose “Time” because it’s currently my favorite of theirs. Never enough British musicians or lengthy guitar solos in my life. (Speaking of, if you’re a fan of said guitar solos check out the kickass one at the beginning of “Hey Friend” by JEFF the Brotherhood – all thanks to Tori for introducing me to this band).

JEN
Breezeblocks - Alt-J
So this song was originally introduced to me by my friend Kevin when he just had to show me the kickass video, and it's been my obsession ever since. I am beyond livid that I can't see them in concert because I'll be halfway across the country already. So bitter. Anyway, this song is absolutely amazing. The lead singer's voice is really interesting which is something I look for since I'm a singer as well. This song is so easy to get stuck in your head and randomly start humming and singing around work (I totally have NOT done that...). The rest of their debut album is just as amazing and has a great mix of upbeat and slower tracks that are just perfect for a lazy summer afternoon. This band is also recommended by Tessa so even more reason to check them out!

  KAYLEY
Young and Beautiful- Lana Del Rey
So, like most of you I'm sure, I saw and read The Great Gatsby. The movie was not only great, but the soundtrack was even better. One of the tracks includes "Young & Beautiful". I like this song because it's such a powerful and personal song to me. I haven't always been the biggest fan of Lana, but she's definitely got me interested with this song. She's the perfect voice and person for this song. I recommend it indefinitely.

Lifestyle | Living With Your Parents

So everyone knows how difficult it can be to live with your parents during high school. Things seem to only get harder after you leave for college and are used to the freedom of living on your own. When you return for breaks it seems like all of your parents' rules are made to make your life a living hell (sometimes this is true). In general though, they are just doing what they know and that is to parent you even though you're a grown ass adult. So here's my tips and tricks for surviving the summer (and any other breaks).

1. Help out around the house.
Seriously guys, parents love this shit. You do your chores when they ask you to and they will love you forever. Also, doing random things around the house like cleaning up once in a while or doing the dishes when they've stacked up earns bonus points. If you demonstrate that you're contributing to the family without even being asked, it rings a bell in your parents' heads that you are growing up and are able to take care of yourself.

2. Spend time with your family.
Yeah, yeah, I know this one can be annoying. But realize that sooner rather than later this will be the last time you'll see your family on a day-to-day basis. Once you're out of college and (hopefully) living on your own, you're likely to only see your parents once a week. Take it from someone who goes to school out-of-state, you'll miss your family more than you know. And they super appreciate it when you ask to spend time with them. My parents LOVE when I set aside time just to hang out and watch a TV show or something because it makes them feel needed still.

3.  Be respectful.
It works for some parents if you just rebel against everything they say and eventually they leave you alone. But I've somehow figured out how to be respectful AND still get the result I want. Try to be on good terms with your parents during the summer. Follow their rules, don't backtalk (unless they're being completely unreasonable, then I give you permission), and generally just don't be a bitch. It won't get you anywhere. Bottom line is that if you treat them with respect, they'll do the same to you. And just maybe let you go to Lawrence randomly on a weeknight.

4. Keep yourself busy.
I promise you WILL go insane if you lay in your room all day... no matter how amazing Netflix is. If you make yourself busy your parents are likely to give you less chores and nag you less as well. How would you feel if your college student came home and did nothing all day while you had to be at work? Yeah, I wouldn't be too happy either. Find a hobby, get a part-time job, anything just to make it seem that your life is jam-packed. Otherwise, you're asking to get nagged.

Those are just some of my tips for a successful break with minimal fighting. It has worked for me in the past and I hope it helps even just one of you!

xx

Favorites | Tori - May

There have been a lot of changes in May; the major one including my hair! I had about 8 inches cut off (donated to Locks of Love, of course) and I had it lightened...a lot. With that being said, my first May favorite is a hair product.

1. Lee Stafford Bleach Blondes toning shampoo and conditioner
I was a bit skeptical about what a difference this duo could make. I use it about twice a week and have noticed such a change. Even my coworkers ask if I keep getting my hair lightened. For about $10 a bottle at Ulta, these two are definitely worth it if you have blonde hair or highlights. It also smells amazing; it's more of a floral yet masculine scent. It reminds me a lot of the Japanese Cherry Blossom line at Bath and Body Works. Plus, double points at Ulta throughout your birthday month, so there's that.

2. Benefit Watts Up! Highlighter
I didn't actually pay for this (which is always a wonderful thing). I actually got this as a present from being a "Beauty Insider" with Sephora. The little gift also came with a sample of the They're Real mascara. I absolutely love both products. The highlighter is honestly one of the best I've used. It comes in a tube so you have to make sure you blend it well, but it's so worth it. I will definitely be purchasing the highlighter when I run out.

3. Revlon ColorStay Eyeshadow in Seductive
This purchase happened out of inspiration from a Pixiwoo video in which they do Sammi of Beautycrush's make-up. In the video (watch here!), they used a series of pink eyeshadows, however, I could not find pink..so I added to the collection of purple eyeshadows. I really like this palette, the top shade is a bit sparkly for my liking but the third shade is absolutely my favorite. They last all day, and I seriously wore this palette for a week before deciding to change it up. Oops.

4. MAC Amplified Creme Lipstick in Vegas Volt
This is another beauty I didn't have to pay for. Thanks to the wonderful Jenny for getting it for me for my birthday! This coral lipstick is absolutely something I needed. It really helps when I do absolutely nothing else with my make-up besides the basics, you know, makes it look like I put effort into my appearance. The beautiful thing about this is I had a Sephora Representative who was visiting the area come down to my work (you meet everyone when you make people's coffee) and she complimented me on it...it made my day anyway.

5. Banana Boat's Summer Color Self-Tanning Mist
I'm sure you guys are beyond tired of us raging about this (Tessa and Jenny have mentioned it), but it works wonders. For under $6, this is by far the best self tanner I have ever used. I'm so pale I basically glow in the dark and this products helps me look like I spend time outside. I've tried so many self tanners and this is the only one I have found that doesn't streak and doesn't make me look orange (which is really all I ask for). It doesn't even smell as bad as Jenny and Tessa mentioned either, but that's not even important, because it's still the best.

NPOTW

(Nail Polish Of The Week)
So, i'm a pretty big nail polish enthusiast, as well as very indecisive about my colors. Yet I have found two colors I am ABSOLUTELY obsessed with for spring! I feel like the pink and lilac really accent eachother very well. Perfect Spring/Summer combo.

Fingernails- sinful colors  color: 300/Easy Going (found at walmart)
Easy going is a very pretty pale pink color.

Toenails- rimmel london 60   second color: 410/I Lilac You (found at walmart)
I lilac you is a gorgeous faint lilac purple.

Just wanted to do a quick update about my two latest nail color obsessions!
