On Repeat #15

KAYSON
Casanova - Hoodie Allen(ft. Skizzy Mars,G-Eazy)
So since Tessa took Hoodie last week, this week is my week. This isn't off of his new EP but a good song none the less. I originally got hooked on this song because of the chorus/hook, the chorus/hook is a situation that I feel very related to because of my freshman year of college up until this past September. I've never really felt connected to a "hip hop" song before so, I must say I was very impressed with this one. Chorus/Hook: Give me some bad advice

/I hate when you ask me over /You drunk off a glass of wine/ No wonder I'm acting sober/ So cut me out of your life And leave me like class is over/ But when the day goes, and the night comes / I'll still be your Casanova.

TESSA
B.E.A.T. - Selena Gomez
I have zero self control and no shame: I LOVE SELENA GOMEZ. The girl's got talent, and let's be honest besides dating Justin, she is all around on point. Selena Gomez's new album has been making a heavy rotation on my playlist lately. And by heavy rotation I mean I've been listening to the whole album through at least once a day. It was hard to even choose one song because I really just wanted to pick the whole album. But alas, that's not an option, though I highly suggest you still check it out. This was a later discovery of mine as far as the album goes, but it's too catchy not to share. And I'm always talking about the beats of songs, so why not just chose one that gets straight to the point?

TORI
Everything Has Changed-Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran
Okay. Part of me doesn't even want to talk about this just because I thought this would never happen. My work plays just preset radio stations and this song has been played regularly to say the least and got stuck in my head. I will have to say that my prejudice against TSwift has subsided majorly. I still dislike that she slut shames in a lot of her songs but I feel like Red kind of got away from that moreso than her older albums. Anyway! I could spend forever talking about that. I just watched the music video for this and hate to admit how absolutely adorable it is. You might cry. I didn't, but still, cute factor is at a 10/10.

JEN
Love Like a Sunset Part II - Phoenix
I know this song is a bit older, but I discovered it while listening to some of my favorite Phoenix songs. Phoenix in general is just awesome so of course I love even more of their songs. If you've never heard of Phoenix, they have a really different sound and I completely recommend them! This is one of my favorite albums of all time. Their new album isn't as good in my opinion, but that may just be because I haven't listened to it as much and am highly prejudiced because this one is just too good.

RACHEL
White - OFWGKTA (Frank Ocean)
So I think it's fairly clear how we feel about Odd Future here, but in case it wasn't - they're A+. This track especially has been something I've turned to lately (along with copious amounts of One Direction). Frank's voice is kickass, so if you haven't checked out his solo album you're losing at life. Lo siento. Anyhow, this is a little different than the rest of the mixtape yet I love it all the same. Go check it out, it will be 2 minutes of your life well spent.

TESSA
Two Lips (Acoustic) - Hoodie Allen
So if you haven't checked him out since I talked about him before, now is your chance. Not only is he a talented rapper, he released an acoustic EP that is ridiculously great. "Two Lips" was one of my favorites off of his Crew Cuts album and I think off of Americoustic, it's easily my favorite. His voice is just, ugh, so good. And to me, this song sounds very natural acoustic, even though when I first heard he was releasing it acoustic I wasn't sure how I'd feel about it (clearly I've fallen in love). I'm still waiting for him to say that he's coming back to Lawrence in his new tour.. and propose. But that's beside the point. Go download Americoustic off his website, here, or buy it on iTunes if you're super awesome and love him a lot and have money.
KAYSON
The Story - Brandi Carlile
This song may be a few years old but  I have found myself really liking not only Brandi Carlile lately but loving this song. I'm definitely a sucker for songs about life/love and this one is just chalk full of both. It doesn't have that sappy love song tune to it either which is quite good. my favorite verse of the song is "All of these lines across my face Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I've been And how I got to where I am But these stories don't mean anything When you've got no one to tell them to
It's true... I was made for you" and I just really like this song guys. Her voice and lyrics are beautiful so just listen.
TORI
When I Was A Youngster- Rizzle Kicks
I fell in love with Harley and Jordan when Rachel and I saw them perform as openers to Ed Sheeran awhile back. Their stage presence is ridiculous and they are both extremely talented and their different styles work together seamlessly. I got hooked on this song again when I was watching the video for their new single "Lost Generation," which you should watch here!

RACHEL
Okay, so everyone attributes this whole "YOLO" deal to Drake, but I think Mike Rosenberg puts it much more eloquently (Passenger is just a pseudonym obvi).  Tori and I also saw (and met, ugh pain) this beautiful man open for Ed Sheeran - noticing a theme? Anyway, this entire album is the actual bomb and was my jam for like two whole months last year. I honestly don't think I could choose a favorite track, but this has found it's way back into my ears this week. If you want to hear my entire life summed up in under 10 minutes, listen to "The Wrong Direction" and "I Hate".

JEN
Miracle Mile - Cold War Kids
I keep hearing this song on the radio and I somehow know all the lyrics already. I swear, I've only heard it a handful of times and it's just so fun to attempt to sing along with your windows rolled down on a nice day. Yes, I realize I sound like a puppy dog. But IT'S THE TRUTH. I'm gonna start listening to more of Cold War Kids in general, so keep on the lookout for any other posts about them. I have a bunch of new great music on the backburner right now so be excited!

On Repeat #10

Firstly, we apologize for missing On Repeat last week (let's be honest we have awesome music taste and you're sad you missed out on it too)! But without any delays, here are this weeks picks! xx FBG

TESSA
Forest Green - Odd Future
So I have my friend Tyler to thank for this one. On our way to Lawrence one night he turned on Odd Future's mixtape because apparently it's a pretty big deal that as a rap fan I'd never listened to them before. I had been meaning to but just never got around to it. And I finally got around to downloading their stuff (and The Weeknd's Trilogy.. I know, I know I'm late on the bandwagon) and I was actually surprised by how much I liked it. It's definitely a different sound from what I usually listen to but there are some really good tracks. I chose this for it's beat (a typical Tessa answer, I know) and also because Rachel and I decided our new life motto is "swag me out bitch" because why be feminine when you're a bro. (Bonus points if you can guess my favorite line in this song. Go.)

TORI
Wicked Games-The Weeknd
When I saw that someone had already started this week's On Repeat, I was scared for a minute that they would have taken a song by The Weeknd. I know Rachel has been into Trilogy for awhile now. However, this week it seems like all of us are really into The Weeknd. Out of all the songs on Trilogy I find myself going back to "Wicked Games" and "Montreal." His music is so simple yet so amazing. It was a real toss up between "Wicked Games" or "Sweet Life" by Frank Ocean. I'll just be waiting forever for a collaboration between the two, don't mind me.

RACHEL
King – Mike G
At first, I was fairly upset that Tessa and Tori jacked my two top choices for this week’s post. How rude. However after listening to this track off 12 Odd Future Songs I knew I’d found a remedy. For some reason, I’ve barely strayed from rap/hip-hop this week (Kendrick Lamar’s “Backstreet Freestyle” has had an embarrassing amount of plays). We’re going to just try to ignore that this song is entirely about murder. Like, straight up, this dude basically claims himself as royalty for killing women. Regardless of the morbid topic, the beat and the lyricism are A+. So if OFWGKTA and The Weeknd could tour and collab that would be much appreciated plznthanku.

JEN
Only You - Delilah
So I know I'm breaking the rap trend going on in this post, apologies. I just can't get over Delilah... her album has such an interesting variety of styles that really showcase her artistry and capabilities as a vocalist. I've been trying to get the other FBG to listen to her but they have been too obsessed with their own music this week, those bitchachos. So listen to her now, hokayyyy? Also recommended: Go and Shades of Grey

KAYSON

Fame is for assholes-Hoodie Allen
So, I guess this is a little different than what I usually post but alas, here it is; Hoodie Allen. I'm usually not into this kind of music but I will say he is definitely someone I enjoy listening to (not to mention, I sort of have to, my boyfriend is obsessed). I really enjoy this song and the lyrics along with it. oh and hey, he happens to be real cute. So I mean, there's that.

RACHEL
Fineshrine - Purity Ring
Yet again, I find myself marveling at Canada this week. Firstly, for producing Ryan Gosling. Duh. Secondly (and slightly more relevant to this post) for putting out my recent obsession – electronic duo Purity Ring. I finally replaced the piece of shit tape converter in my car, and I’ve played essentially nothing else for two weeks. Cue me being a douchebag and turning it up way too loud in traffic. The lyrics read a little more than creepy at times, and Fineshrine is no exception. But hey, I appreciate that. We can’t all sing about dancing like we’re 22. Besides, who doesn’t want someone to build a metaphorical shrine of love for them? I’m down. They’ve even covered Soulja Boy, so this lady and gentleman tick all the boxes for me. Really, what I’m trying to say is, check out deez beatz!

TESSA
Fame Is For Assholes [F.I.F.A] - Hoodie Allen feat. Chiddy Bang

This week I have found myself listening to nothing but Hoodie Allen, Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky. So one of them had to be chosen for this weeks on repeat but I found myself hitting play on Hoodie Allen's Crew Cuts just a little bit more than the others. His music is fantastic, and he isn't bad eye candy either [think Sam Adams, but better music]. I chose FIFA because it's probably one of his more well-known songs off the mix tape, and I also love me some Chiddy. Plus, how could you not love this song? But in all honesty there's not a bad song on this mix tape, or on any of his albums. So if you haven't checked him out before I highly suggest you do so... like now.

TORI
Never Heal Myself- Cults
To be quite honest, I haven't listened to much else from Cults. However, that hasn't stopped this song from being played nonstop this week. Located in a playlist I made on Spotify (ohhh, playlist, how creative), this song plays out angst as well as invoking some self confidence. In the same respect as Blood Orange's Dinner, this upbeat song catches you and tricks you into not feeling so bad about wanting a certain someone to die unhappy. Starting out a bit passive aggressively, the tune and especially the ending lyrics leave you crazy sassy for hours.

KAYLEY
Totally Fucked - Spring Awakening
So, this is a bit of a change from my past two on repeats. I've told you about Marina and Best Coast. This time I am going to tell you about more of my love for broadway. One of my favorite shows is Spring Awakening (any gleeks would be happy to know this is where Lea Michele really got her name). It's sort of an "edgier" musical. Yet, one of my favorite songs from it is "Totally Fucked". It's a song that is super easy to listen to if you're feeling, well, Fucked. One of my favorite lines from it is"There's a moment you know You're fucked Not an inch more room To self destruct" I think we all can understand that feeling.

JEN

Crown on the Ground - Sleigh Bells
So I first heard this song on the trailer for The Bling Ring, a film coming out directed by Sofia Coppola which I could NOT be more excited for. This song is so catchy I can't even handle it. To most people it may just sound like noise but I think it's sassy and makes me want to come home and hang out with my Broke Girls and do crazy college things. Check it out, you'll understand what I mean!
