Alloy Eyes

Out of necessity, my morning makeup routine is quite elementary. I’m not one to employ the ranks of several eyeshadows for a single look. Instead, I opt for simple, yet effective products that don’t skimp on longevity. Cream eye shadow is the answer to my cosmetic prayers. A subtle wash of bronze is a fail-safe option, and I have two I rely upon.

Now that I’ve acquired a few of MAC’s cream bases, or ProLongwear Paint Pots, they’ve become a staple in my makeup arsenal. Indianwood is an orange-based bronze, which isn't done justice in photos. I use it alone, blended a little through the crease and taken along the bottom lash line for added definition. For full opacity, fingers work best (though I do use the Real Techniques Brow Brush for the lash line).  If you’d prefer a sheer metallic wash, a fluffy blending brush will do the job. I find synthetic bristles work best with cream products. However, natural bristles will do in a pinch. To up the shimmer, I also enjoy throwing on a bit of Urban Decay’s Half Baked, just at the center of the lid.

On the budget end of things, Sonia Kashuk offers the same effect for less. The Pearlescence Longwear Creme in Tiger’s Eye is a nice alternative to my earlier mention. Though a slightly more icy bronze once on the lid, opacity is adjustable and creasing is held at bay. Fingers or a brush will blend this out equally well, but the texture is a little lighter than a Paint Pot so more layers may be required.

Top 5 | Lips

If there's two make up products I can't live without, it's lipstick and mascara. I'm the ultimate mascara junkie and have an ever-growing lip collection though I don't know that I'll ever top Jen in that department. If I'm ever in a rut in my make up routine - which is fairly often - I always turn to my lip products to spice things up a bit. Not to mention they're a great just-out-of-winter-pick-me-up that we've all been needing. Here's a few of my tried and trues and some more recent additions.

MAC Vegas Volt
This is an oldie but a goodie in my collection. I've had it for about a year now and I love the way it will brighten up a make up look. It's a good orange for those who are just venturing into the world of bold lipsticks. Much like is expected from MAC, it's a great formula and wears really well.

Milani Rose Hip
One of the newest additions I've added to my collection, I'm obsessed. I've seen that it's a dupe for MAC's Candy Yum Yum (I haven't swatched them side by side for myself but I shall let you know if I ever do). It's definitely a matte formula, so you'll want something moisturizing underneath. I love pairing this up if I'm wearing an eye look from my Naked 3 palette, as the light pink undertones of the shadow compliment the brightness of Rose Hip perfectly.

Milani Nude Créme
I'm not sure that I've ranted about this enough to y'all, but here we go again. This has become my holy grail nude, even over Soap & Glory's Nudist. The formula is really moisturizing and lasts well. Even when it wears off, it's not a color that you need to reapply as it wears wonderfully. It's new home is in whatever bag I have with me at that moment in time. I'm not sure I can go without this ever again.

Maybelline Pink Pop
When Maybelline launched their Color Sensations Vivid line I went a little cray for it. It's possible I'm still obsessed and eyeing up a few more colors (read: I will own the whole collection at some point). This is a really pigmented baby pink and I love it. This was one of my go-to's last summer, especially if I was keeping the rest of my make up really simple. The best thing about it is that it's a baby pink that won't wash out pale skin tones, which is sometimes hard to accomplish.

Maybelline Coral Ambition
I blame Rachel 1000% for me buying this. Unlike the rest of the products I've talked about, this product is more balm-like and has less pigmentation. I still really love it though. It's another product that lives in whatever bag I'm carrying because it's a good sheer wash of color for days that I'm feeling really lazy.

Lip Color Pairing | Bright Pink Glossy Stain

Here at FBG, it seems that we have all been getting on the lipgloss bandwagon (and I fully blame Essiebutton). At first it was a bit of a struggle to balance everything out and figure out just the right pairing for makeup. I would guess about 90% of my lip color involves stains or a matte finish, so gloss seems downright crazy. Instead of going straight into buying a lot of glosses, I thought I would incorporate products that I am already comfortable with just to help me get used to them. This involved lip pencils. I know a lot of people seem to be terrified of them because they automatically think the colors don't match and they will look like something out of the 80's or 90's. If used correctly, they really enhance the colors in whatever you are using.
The gloss that really got it started for me was the YSL Glossy Stain. I know I have talked about this before, but it really is just amazing. It does have a bit of that glossy stickiness to it when you first apply it but that quickly sets into a really nice liquid lipstick kind of texture. I only own one of these but I already have a couple more colors that I am eyeing. I own the color 16 Pourpre Preview. I thought I would just show you guys how I typically would wear this. The lip pencil I am using is Dynamo by MAC. This lip pencil just enhances the glossy stain and takes it to a vibrant magenta hue that is just really nice for spring. Not to mention, the lip pencil makes the glossy stain last a bit longer.

What color combinations are you guys loving?

The Underdogs

After a little peruse of my makeup ranks, I found there was a host of products I loved - but didn't use much. Not quite logical. In an attempt to rekindle my affection I'm giving some tlc to a few things I've been missing.

Bare Minerals Power Neutrals
During a pre-holiday spree, I added this lovely neutrals palette to my cart. I'd heard great rumors about the quality of Bare Minerals eyeshadows and I was not let down. The colors are a great selection, and a little off-beat from your typical "naked" palette. I've dabbled in using these shades, and a standout is Moneymaker - a nice earthy green which is a good alternative to a typical brown.

Forever 21 Cream Cheek Blush
This one may be tricky to locate, but I did see they repackaged their cream blushes recently and there is a shade nearly identical to the one I own. The formula is less sheeny than other cream blushes I own but still doesn't full transform to a powder finish. As a result, the effect is glowy yet long lasting. This color instantly lifts the face and pairs well with an orange-toned red lip. Definitely one I should be turning to more often.

Rimmel ScandalEyes Kohl Kajal in Taupe
For days when I'm looking for subltle definition, this is ideal. The color manages to enhance the eyes without looking obvious. The formula is comparable to something like Urban Decay's Glide On pencils, and is almost gel-like.

Maybelline Vivid Lipstick in Hot Plum
To be fair Hot Plum is nowhere in the realm of an 'everyday' shade. It's well pigmented, and a flashy color. Yet I still love it on the lips. Come spring & summer, effortless makeup is epitomized by bright lips and a minimal face. This cool-toned shade works well with my complexion, and would stand out against a warmer skin tone. Bonus: the formula is creamy and non-drying.

MAC Lipstick in Hue
On the opposite end of the spectrum, we have a muted warm pink. Hue tones down my lip color ever so slightly. The glaze finish helps it to be wearable and simple to touch up on the go as well. Personally, I pair it with a slightly heavier eye to keep things in balance.

¡Adiós!

Tuesday Talk | Favorite Concealer

TORI
MAC Studio Finish Concealer (NC15)
I know I've mentioned my struggle of finding a good concealer before and I still haven't found my holy grail product. The Studio Finish Concealer is the closet I've come though. I typically use the Revlon Photo Ready concealer for redness, but Studio Finish is great for under the eyes. I'm convinced that nothing will ever completely cover my dark circles, but this does a fine job. It has SPF 35 which makes me feel pretty good about this product. Using a moisturizing under eye cream is necessary when using this product to ensure it doesn't look cakey. I really like applying this with the tip of my Real Techniques Sponge.

JENNY
Sonia Kashuk All Covered Up (01 Porcelain)
Soooo I apparently completed spaced that the Tuesday Talk this week was on concealer since I did my post on concealers last week (oops). However, this time I uploaded a picture so y'all could get a better understanding of the consistency f this product. It's a little wetter than MAC Studio Finish but I feel that they could be comparable. This product blends well and matches my skintone almost perfectly but I believe there are only four different colors. I usually just use my finger (I know, poor form, but I'm a girl on the go). It also has pretty nice packaging for the drugstore, albeit a little bulky for the amount of product inside. However, this has been my favorite concealer recently but like Tori, I still haven't found my holy grail.

TESSA
Covergirl Fresh Completion Under Eye Concealer in Classic Ivory
Well, what a surprise we have here. I think I've used this concealer in every video I've posted (which if you aren't subscribed to our YouTube channel go do so now.. New videos every Saturday!). Much like Tori, I don't think I'll ever find a product to actually help my under eye area, but this comes pretty darn close. It has a really creamy consistency and it actually just a tad too light for my skin (a real feat to accomplish) so it has a highlighting effect that makes it look like maybe I did sleep for 8 hours last night. Of course I have yet to find a concealer that I love enough to repurchase, I think I'll forever be on the hunt. Suggestions welcome.

RACHEL
Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer in Fair
I'm not sure that I've ever actually mentioned this product, but it has been a game changer for me. The price tag is a little steep unfortunately. However, if you are ghostly it can be quite the challenge to find a concealer that is actually fair enough. This is the right shade and undertone for my skin, and works well for dryness. If you tend to be oiler, it may slide around a bit on you. If you find that concealer tends to look cakey and dry, give this a go. I find it can work on both blemishes and the under eye area. It is densely pigmented, so you only need a minute amount. Paired with a tapered eyeliner brush this is perfect for some Lisa Eldridge pinpoint concealing.

5 Under $5

Sometimees I feel like I neglect the name of the blog. A lot of products that I talk about are far from budget friendly. I have nothing against drugstore products, I just get extremely caught up in the packaging and the hype of higher end products. I thought in this post I would show some love for the products that are budget friendly and that don't skip on quality.

ELF | Lip Lock Pencil ($3.00)
In all honesty, this is my absolute favorite ELF product. I have been using this for as long as I have been interested in makeup. It keeps your lipstick from feathering or moving around and definitely helps the staying power of anything you are wearing. That leads to less touch-ups and overall frustration that sometimes goes along with the whole shindig.

NYX | Jumbo Eye Pencil ($4.49)
I own two of these. I own Iced Mocha and Milk. I love using Iced Mocha as a base color and Milk as a brow highlighter or in my waterline. I typically use a primer under Iced Mocha just to ensure that it doesn't crease or smudge. These blend in easily and I love the consistency of the product.

Revlon | Colorstay Nail Enamel ($4.99)
You guys should know by now that Revlon is probably my favorite drugstore brand. I think I say that about every time I mention it,  oops. They're nail polishes are no exception, they are a nice quality without the price of Essie or ahem Deborah Lippmann (although I would own all her polishes if I could). I have never had an issue with any nail polish I have purchased by this brand and they usually have a really nice color range as well.

Maybelline | Color Whisper Lipcolor ($4.74)
For a little bit cheaper than the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter, the Color Whisper Lipcolor offers a nice range of colors. I actually think I like them better than the Revlon Colorburst (I'm sensing a comparison post coming your way). These are extremely pigmented for a drugstore lip color. I own Made-It Mauve and Berry Ready and would reccommend them both.

Revlon | Colorstay Blemish Concealer ($4.28)
I have had a love/ hate relationship with concealers. I love the idea of concealer but have yet to find one that I am massively obsessed with. That being said, this concealer is the best one I have found and for a pretty good price. I don't really use it as a blemish concealer though. I usually just pat this in with my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge and it tones down any redness I may have.

What are your favorite budget friendly products?

The Beauty Briefcase

This is one for all you working ladies. When it comes to work makeup the words “rushed” and “slapdash” come to mind. Functioning in the morning is enough of a chore, so looking presentable is a real feat. So, I’ve curated a capsule collection of sorts that will see me through early mornings.

BASE
I tend to switch this up based on my current skin condition and my preference for the day. Lately though I’ve been enjoying mixing a small amount of Rimmel Stay Matte Mousse with CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion. This duo offers light, natural coverage and keeps my skin hydrated in spite of central heating and air conditioning.

EYES | CHOCOLATE LINER + NUDE SHIMMER
Typically I skip a complicated eye look, as that requires too much coordination for 6:30 in the morning. Instead I turn to Rimmel’s Kohl Kajal liner, smudge along the top and bottom lashline and slightly winged out. This subtly (and quickly) defines my eyes, lasts all day, and is suitable for a work environment. For a little added dimension, I sweep Stila’s Kitten across the lid. Of course I finish with mascara, but I hoard them so my stash is always evolving.

CHEEKS
Blush is another area where I don’t have a solid go-to, but I usually stick to powder as it lasts better. For a muted option, I’d recommend Revlon Naughty Nude. If you prefer a brighter hue Tarte’s Flush is beyond beautiful – and is subtle enough to remain professional.

LIPS | GLOSSY + NATURAL
Now, from time to time I do spring for a bright color on the lips. For work, I just keep the face simple: a swipe of mascara and a pinch of blush. However, most days I’ve been turning to L’Oreal Color Extraordinaire Liquid Lipstick in 101 Rose Melody. It evens out texture, hydrates, and adds the perfect pink flush to the lips. Plus, reapplication is a breeze.

What is in your beauty briefcase?

Review | MAC Fix+

As a MAC junkie, I'm really surprised at how long it took me to purchase Fix+. I think it took me so long to decide on it because I hadn't really seen any reviews on it. I was kind of confused if it was supposed to set my makeup or if it was just a hydrating mist. For the sake of beauty lovers everywhere, I decided to go ahead and purchase the travel version for $10 (I'm soooo generous).
I know the main selling point of Fix+ is that it has magical powers to make your face not look so powdery. When I got my makeup done a MAC a month or so back, this was used...a lot. My face felt so sticky and I couldn't wait to rush home and take my makeup off. However, I tried doing some research and found that people said it felt sticky or made their face appear greasy if they sprayed it too close to their face. It has glycerin in it so that should have been obvious but whatevs.
Back to the purchase. After realizing that it was probably just human error, I thought I should give it a go, especially since winter has destroyed my skin this year. After looking at the ingredients, and seeing no harm, I wanted to see how this product would work to hydrate my face without applying makeup afterwards. I was hooked after that. If my serum and night cream aren't cutting it, I just spray this on my face and I feel, for a lack of better words, refreshed.
As my daily routine, I have been applying Fix+ after I use toner and before my moisturizer. I then apply all of my face makeup. So after I have applied my foundation, counter, highlighter, and blush I will go ahead and spray it again. I found that if I waited and used it after I was completely done with my makeup, it tends to make my mascara sticky and gross. Obviously since it's stuck into my ever-changing routine for about a month it definitely does it's job.
I bought the travel size because it does have essential oils in it and sometimes that causes my skin to have a conniption fit. I'm happy to say after a month of using this product, my skin has remained pretty calm. As mentioned before, I have pretty dry skin. The main skin issue I have is dehydration, so this product worked really well for me. Sometimes I notice that powders only emphasize my dry patches and this product absolutely fixes that whole situation. In all, when I run out of my travel size bottle, I'll probably be repurchasing it.

The Most Used Drawer

On a little bit of inspiration from Tori's post last week, I tackled organizing all my make up as well. I wasn't happy with my previous system, and I'm not 100% satisfied with this one, but it's at least better because I'm not constantly digging for products. Enter, the most used drawer. These are my tried, true and in most cases, well-loved products that have made their way into my daily (or almost daily) life. I reach for these products to create just about every make up look. This probably seems like a lot of products to use on the regular, but when have I not been ridiculous? I snagged the divider from Target a while back, I'm sure you can still find it in stores.

I'll save you going through and explaining every product and just name them off for you. Most of these I've ranted constantly about anyway so I'm sure you're sick of hearing about them anyway. I'm starting with the far left compartment and moving clockwise. I've skipped the bottom right compartment as it just houses a headband, cotton pads and a clip.

Compartment 1: Palettes, Eyes, Lips and Randoms
Mac Paint Pot in Painterly, Mac Paint Pot in Constructivist, Maybelline Color Tattoo in Barely Branded, Urban Decay Primer Potion Samples.
Urban Decay Naked 3, Urban Decay Naked Basics, e.l.f. Contouring Blush & Bronzer Kit in St. Lucia, The Color Workshop Blush Palette, Kate Moss for Rimmel in Shade 103, Rimmel Show Off in Luna, bh Cosmetics in Sun (from Galaxy Chic Palette, sample from ipsy).
Samples of L'Occitane Products

Compartment 2: Face Products
NYC Bronzer in Sunny, Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Transparent
Rimmel Match Perfection in 101 Classic Ivory, Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua in BR 12, Covergirl Fresh Effects Under Eye Concealer in Classic Ivory, Physician's Formula Organic Wear Mineral Foundation in Light
Benefit Watt's Up Highlighter, The Balm Instain Blush in Swiss Dot, NYX Vanilla Sky Eyeshadow

Compartment 3: More Face Products
Cargo Blush in Los Cabos, Anastasia Brow Powder Duo in Auburn
Covergirl Clean Whipped Creme Foundation in Shade 305, Pixi Bronzer in Subtly Sunkissed

Compartment 4: Mascara, Brows and Eyeliner
Maybelline Great Lash in Clear, Em Cosmetics Lash Gallery Clean Volume Mascara in Black, Maybelline The Falsies Black Drama in Blackest Black, Maybelline The Falsies Big Eyes in Blackest Black, Benefit's They're Real in Black, Rimmel Scandal Eyes in Nude, Rimmel Scandal Eyes in Black, Essence Brow Designer in Blonde, Rimmel U Get In Line Liquid Liner in Black.

So there it is: my most used products in all their glory. What are your tried and trues that you always reach for? Have any organization tips? Comment below, tweet us, facebook us - whatever your little heart desires.

Hope you enjoyed this little peek into my make up collection.

Talk to y'all soon,

What's On My Face #1

After my crazy, last minute impulse trip to Manhattan on Monday and a slew of tests, homework and projects being thrown at me this week, my make up routine has been at an all time low. I've been wearing as little of make up as possible, considering I'm getting next to no sleep with how busy I've been. So without further ado, here's what's been on my face this week.

FACE
Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua in BR12 (pictured)/Covergirl Whipped Foundation in Ivory
I've been alternating foundations this week based on coverage. For days that I'm feeling really lazy, or don't need a whole lot of coverage, I've reached for my Chanel foundation of course. I'm sure I've raved about this enough now that you're sick of hearing about it so I won't go on any longer. And I'd be willing to bet same goes for my beloved Covergirl Whipped. I'm nearly out so it's really just been about finishing off the pot, and the added coverage doesn't hurt either.

EYES
MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly paired with Benefit's They're Real/EM Cosmetics Lash Gallery Clean Volume (pictured)
Some more tried and trues here, to no surprise. I've been so lazy about eyeshadow that I haven't even been wearing any. Painterly is pretty much a perfect match for my eyes, so I just use it all over the lid to neutralize and leave it at that. Sticking to my favorite mascaras, they both have the same awakening effect on my eyes (thank God), but Benefit's offering gives off a more natural look.

BROWS
Essence Eyebrow Designer Pencil/Maybelline Great Lash in Clear
I dug out my Essence pencil after it's been at the bottom of the drawer for a while, and now I'm not sure why I ever put it down. I've been turning back to filling in my brows with a brunette color since my hair has faded quite a lot. This pencil gives off a very natural finish and it doesn't require a whole lot of effort to fill in. As always, I finish off and keep them in place with Maybelline Great Lash.

What are your go-to's on busy weeks?

This Week's Favorites #1

This week I thought I would just share with you a couple (or five) items that I've really been loving the past week. Once I get into the habit of things I find myself doing the same makeup routine everyday, oops.

Anywho, two of my favorites are foundations. This week, like pretty much every other week, the YSL Touche Eclat has caught my eye. I won't even go on about this product because I'm sure you guys have heard enough about it by now. There is a twist to this, though. I recently purchased MAC Face and Body and I decided to be a tad experimental and mix the two. I was kind of surprised at how well they meshed. It has a pretty long wear when mixed and seriously just looks and feels like a second skin. The YSL makes the face a bit dewy while the Face and Body just completely evens the skin tone.

The mascara favorite this week is the Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume. I had been lusting over this product and was gifted it by Rachel for Christmas. I honestly love it just as much as I thought I would. It definitely defines the lashes perfectly and makes eye makeup look complete without being extremely dramatic. I've been doing a simple eye routine this week and this mascara made the whole look appear to be more polished.

Continuing on with eyes, my Paint Pot in Stormy Pink has been getting a lot of love recently. I decided for some reason to step out of the realm of bronze and neutral eyeshadow and this was the one that I ran with. I love this color because it does feel a bit more springy and lord knows I'm dying for the weather to get above 0.

The last item in this weeks feature is the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner. The tip on this is absolutely phenomenal. It is extremely thin and allows for complete precision. This week I have been just applying it has a very thin line with a flick. This eyeliner makes it practically foolproof.

What have been your go-to products this week?

Get Ready With Me | Gameday

I tried to get this up ASAP considering the Cats won and I thought it would be appropriate to celebrate by showing you how I did my make up for the game. Yes, I am indeed crazy enough to drive two hours on a Monday night to watch basketball. Also, not sure what happened at the beginning of the video, or why it's choppy in some parts — Sorry!

Saturday Makeup | Splurge vs. Save

If you recall, I’ve written a post akin to this before. I quite liked the idea of options so I’m resurrecting it for a second go. This time around I’m talking casual Saturday makeup. I’m usually out and about so I aim to be put together but effortless. Some weekends I go for more or less makeup, but I usually gravitate toward the middle.

DEFINING MASCARA | MAC Gigablack Lash vs. Flower Zoom-In Ultimate Mascara
For a casual Saturday I usually opt to make eyes the focal point, so I let mascara do a lot of the heavy lifting. I don’t want to layer on the volume but I do want a nice lashy look. MAC’s offering has a slender wand that can maneuver well to perfectly fan out the lashes. It never clumps and will hold a curl all day – fo real. I’ve fully reviewed the Flower mascara so I won’t warble on too long. The brown shade is deep enough to define yet is less harsh. A solid option to achieve that doll-like eye.

SUBTLE EYESHADOW | MAC Woodwinked vs. Maybelline Tastefully Taupe
I’m no stranger to brown eyeshadow so this was a no brainer. A slightly shimmery, neutral tone adds depth without being heavy. Swept over the entire lid and along the lower lash line, I achieve a subdued smoky eye suitable for day wear. These particular shadows are fairly comparable quality wise, though I will say I slightly prefer the warmer tone of Woodwinked.

MINIMAL BASE | Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer in Cameo vs. DIY Tinted Moisturizer
A slapdash approach to base is usually the route I go on weekends. I solely want to even my skin tone and remain incredibly natural. Honestly, I’m not head over heels for Laura Mercier’s option but it’s still very nice. It leaves a subtle glow to the skin with the added benefit of SPF 20. Though I actually prefer my DIY option. As of late, I’ve mixed a drop of Revlon Colorstay with a pump of my CeraVe moisturizer and used fingers to apply. Me gusta.

SOFT BLUSH | Tarte Thoughtful vs. e.l.f Tickled Pink
Feminine, pretty blush is my go-to for these days. It lifts the face and balances the brown-toned eyes. Tarte’s shade is lovely but if you prefer something a bit more subdued opt for the e.l.f. Both will look flattering and round off this simple look well.

What are your weekend staples? Until next week, I’m off!

xx

One Swipe Shadows

MAC Constructivist, Urban Decay Naked 2, Urban Decay Liar, bh cosmetics Sun, Maybelline Barely Branded
We all have those mornings where we don't feel like doing our make up but still need to manage to look presentable. Enter: minimal make up and one sweep shadows. Now, I myself am more than likely to sweep on at least two shadows, but we know all too well I'm notorious for running late and slapping on a couple products to make the bare minimum of presentable. Obviously the options are endless, but here are a few of my favorites.

Urban Decay Naked 2 (from Naked Basics)
From my very well loved Naked Basics palette, this shade was the first I hit pan on. And I'm pretty sure I cried when I discovered you couldn't buy it separate from the palette. This is the perfect matte brown shade and would work on multiple skin tones, and gives the perfect wash of color. I like using it with a fluffy blending brush as it distributes the product perfectly between the lid and the crease, giving you the appearance of trying harder than you actually did. A+

Urban Decay Liar (from Naked 3)
Another newer addition to my collection, thanks to Jen. I typically like to use this palette when I'm going out but there are days when I reach for it to create a day look. This offering isn't as dark and harsh on the lid as Mugshot or Factory, but still has a brown undertone that allows you to pull it off on it's own.

bh Cosmetics Sun (from Galaxy Chic Palette)
I got this sample a while back and am tempted to buy the whole palette based on this color. It's a marbled reddish color with gold and looks absolutely gorgeous on the lid. I love pairing this with winged liner for a bit more of a dramatic flare.

MAC Paintpot in Constructivist
This is the newest addition to my collection, but quickly became a favorite. If you don't want to spend the $20 at MAC, Maybelline's Bad to the Bronze has a pretty similar effect, but not as dark. I'm never big on shimmery shadows, but this color gets it right, and it adds a little bit of dimension that otherwise would be nonexistent.

Maybelline Color Tattoo in Barely Branded
Of course this had to make the list, a go-to of mine for the whole summer, Barely Branded is the perfect champagne shade. It's not too golden, silver, brown, or anything. It's pretty much straight up champagne. I like to use this on it's own or layer it under another shadow.

Taming the Makeup Drawer

For some god forsaken reason, I decided it would be a good idea to clean out some of my makeup stash. I really just touched my "most used," drawer. It may have taken me forever, mostly due to me being completely indecisive, but some things did actually get tossed aside. The foundations I tossed out were due solely because of their shade. I'm pretty picky when I buy foundations to color match but I feel like I may have had these a bit too long because they both got quite a bit more dark, the tone was completely off and I ain't about looking like an oompa loompa.

I was actually a bit surprised at how many eyeliners I threw out. One in particular was a brand that I threw out a couple of things. I'm not sure why because I was a bit fond of Hard Candy when I first purchased it. It was pretty cheap and seemed to be an okay quality. When I swatched these products again, especially the liquid eyeliner, it creased so much and it didn't have a staying power that I want with liquid liner. Some of the others I swatched didn't move once on, but the Hard Candy liner smudged right after drying.

In a more positive light, some of these were just samples I used up that I had been clinging onto. For Christmas, Rachel bought me a REN gift set. I recently used up the cleansing balm and the hydro-calm moisturizer in that set. I love the moisturizer but was a bit undecided on the cleansing balm. I'm not much of a oil/balm gal. I hate the feeling of it on my face. The cleanser I use to remove my makeup now is the No7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Balm because it feels more like a moisturizer on my face, it's not a "true" balm so to speak.

Anywayyy, I cleaned up my makeup drawer in an effort to remember things that I once loved since I've put myself on a makeup ban this month. I'm never happy with my organization, so if you guys have any other storage ideas, please comment below and let me know!

Recent Purchases #2

As mentioned in my last post, I'll be mentioning/ briefly reviewing a product I bought last Saturday. I was completely torn between the Rouge Dior Couture Color Lipstick in Mauve Mystère and the YSL Glossy Stain in Pourpre Preview. Alas, the YSL won out due to my adventurous mood (yea, gloss is adventurous, okaaii?). The color was really unique and I had heard great things about this glossy stain. My problem with gloss is that I don't like how it feels, however, once this gloss "dries" it doesn't feel like anything is on your lips. I wore this color to work the other day and it lasted all day without the drying feel of a lipstick. (I'm still getting the Dior one though). All in all, I really like this product because it is long lasting and is vibrantly pigmented. I really want Peachy Coral from this line (so feel free to buy it for me).

The next product is the Real Techniques Silicone Eyeliner Brush. I debated this purchase for a bit just because eyeliner has become a foreign thing to me. With my shaky logic, I figured that this brush would be just  the thing to get me back on my eyeliner game. This brush is easy to use and does an extremely nice job guiding the perfect flick for a cat eye. Either that or I must have woke up with surgeon-steady hands, but I bet on the brush. That being said, I'm not sure if it's the eyeliner I am using or what, but I feel like I had to coat this on. It definitely needs to be a gel or paint pot or something of the sort. When I used a cream eyeliner it didn't go on as dark as I wanted and I ended up reaching for my Stila liquid liner to finish the job.

I'm extremely confused by this next product. The Smashbox Jet Set Waterproof Eyeliner in Navy has really amazing reviews on Ulta, but I'm not a massive fan. This was a pretty impulsive buy and I didn't read the reviews before picking it up or hearing much about it. The reviews all claim it has a bold color but I'm not seeing it. I tried applying it with two different brushes and layering it on, but it definitely was not navy, but more cerulean. Needless to say, I was kind of disappointed to see it wasn't as bold as the reviews exclaimed, but I'll keep trying and let you know.

This last product is one I have been wanting to try for awhile. The NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream has been talked about a lot on YouTube and for some reason I just never got around to buying it. I have seen a couple reviews and swatches of Istanbul and finally nabbed it the other day. This definitely lives up to its name. It has the matte factor of a lipstick while feeling like a lip balm. It is pretty pigmented for the price and is somewhat long lasting. Even though it doesn't last as long as a lipstick does, it is way easier to quickly apply than lipstick. I absolutely will be picking up other colors from this range.

What makeup or skincare have you guys picked up?

This Week's Favorites | #1

I was honestly at a loss of what to post this week, so I went on bloglovin for a little inspiration (Speaking of, follow us on bloglovin if you aren't already). Much inspired by Kate's (gh0stparties) "This Week's Most Loved...", enjoy my favorite/most used products this week.

Chanel Vitalumiére Aqua in BR12
I finally bit the bullet and bought this. After going through many samples, I decided I couldn't live without it. It's great on lighter coverage days, which is basically everyday for me. It pained me a lot to spend $50 on foundation, but my philosophy on foundation is much like skin care — get it right and it'll change your life. So it's well worth it.

MAC Paint Pot in Painterly
This might be a regular appearance on the list. I use this as my eyeshadow base any time I wear eyeshadow. It's the perfect color, not too pink, too brown or too nude. It also makes eyeshadow last a ridiculous amount longer, with no creasing. So if you haven't invested in one of these already, you definitely need to.

Maybelline Baby Lips Neon in Oh! Orange!
I dug this out of my lip drawer in order to use it up so I could buy more lip balm, because I really can't justify it right now. I have issues, I know. Anyway, I've fallen in love with this color all over again and can't remember why I put it away. It doesn't have as nice of a scent as the other Baby Lips I own, but the color pay off is beautiful, and much like Jen, Rachel and I were talking about the other night: any orange lip/blush color, I'm there.

Pixi Bronzer in Subtly Suntouched
I got this a while back in an ipsy bag, used it a couple times and put it down and never looked back. Until I watched a Chelsea Wears video in which she talked about how she loves wearing brown blush, something I had never ventured into. I went home a did a good ol' "shop my stash" and stumbled upon this again. I've been loving this in place of blush lately, so much so that I took it on my trip to Manhattan with me — which was a very narrowed down make up stash, by the way. It looks great with any make up look and gives the skin a subtle glow.

Until next week,
xx

Recent Purchases

I told myself that I was going to be on a makeup ban this month. Did that happen? No. Did I make it three days? No. I should really work on my self control when it comes to makeup. That being said, I feel pretty solid about these three purchases because I *needed* them. I have actually been wanting two of these products for months. In the picture I am wearing all the products listed below. Not like it was difficult because I luurrvee them.

The first is the Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer in fair. If you have been reading the blog for awhile, you know that I raved about the sample I got from Sephora months back in my "BB Cream War," post. When I finally broke down and bought it, the first use was pretty magical. It has that silky formula that I love and a nice, natural coverage. There are a few other perks of this product. One including it's Broad Spectrum SPF 30. Who wouldn't want that? Another perk is it being a vegan product, also meaning no animal testing. Y'all know I'm a sucker for brands who don't test on animals.

Hourglass has been tempting me in the form of YouTube videos because just about all the people I watch use the Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil. I was running out of my beloved Gimme Brow and decided that it was time. The moment I tried this pencil I fell in love. I know I say that with about every brow product ever, but truly, this is amazing. It's advertised as a pencil but looks like the most natural thing. The consistency is more like a crayon than a pencil. That being said, I think putting a clear brow gel on over helps it stay put. I purchased the soft brunette shade and it is perfect. How did I ever operate without filling in my brows? This is a mystery.

This last product is one I am determined to conquer. Blush. I have the hardest time applying blush. I never think it looks right on me, I have no idea why. I've gotten better about it, thanks to my Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual. Anywho, I thought this NYX Rouge Cream Blush in Hot Pink would be the perfect shade. It's a gorgeous shade and does work with my skin tone. I used it the other day and was pleasantly surprised. It blends really well, I use the Real Techniques Buffing Brush just to blend it in. With my face shape being oval, I go ahead and place the product higher on my cheekbones towards my ear and then blend out. I feel like that works the best for me just because I don't like the color on the apples of my cheeks, it just looks weird on me.

What products have you guys been loving lately?

The Bare Minimum

I know you all are probably really sick of hearing me talk about how I'm always late and running out the door and my make-up to match. But this week I've had some serious issues with that, seeing as I'm in the midst of final papers (perks of being a journalism major: tests are rare, downfalls: papers on papers on papers. And I'm the queen of procrastination). So this week it's been the bare minimum for me on make up. I promise you, this will be the last what's on my face for a while. Unless you really like these, in which case, I shall continue.

Now, when I say bare minimum, I mean: bare minimum. Foundation, eyeliner, mascara, brows, done. That's how minimum I've been this week. Sticking with my trusty CoverGirl Whipped Creme Foundation in Ivory, that I'm sure you've heard all you can about. It's a great alternative to the Revlon PhotoReady Whipped if you're not willing to drop $15 on a foundation. Blending that out with my finger tips is the quickest, easiest, no-fuss foundation application ever. The lazy girl's dream. For liner, I've once again, not broken out of my box. Using Rimmel London's Get in Line, which was discontinued with their Rimmel U line (such a shame, I loved it). Continuing to the point, I have ventured out a little from my typical application and gone for a full, thicker wing. I will wear winged liner, but my version is usually pretty thin with a small flick at the end, nothing too dramatic. But I decided to experiment a little this week and have been loving it. See motto: Eyeliner on point, life in shambles (couldn't be more relevant). Finishing off the eyes, I've gone back to another tried & true: Benefit's They're Real. Recently, I've been raving and constantly reaching for EM Cosmetic's Lash Gallery Clean Volume. Benefit's offering however, just offers a great amount of separation and length. As far as brows, my typical routine has stuck using Anastasia's Brow Powder Duo in Auburn (specifically the left side color) to fill in and setting them with Maybelline's Great Lash in Clear.

Well, that's all from me this week! I hope you guys are surviving finals. I promise to bring you some really awesome stuff over Winter Break!
